Love

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

I often find myself reflecting on love… my practice lately has been one of gratitude. On July 2nd (my parent’s 34th wedding anniversary), I mosied over to a bookstore that I recently learned was in my neighborhood. 44th & 3rd Bookseller nearly took my breath away, I love books, and they had so many gems on their shelves. Baldwin & Morrison & Hurston & hooks, I perused the shelves and wished that one day The Lineage of Love could be available in such a well-curated space. I shared The Lineage of Love with the staff and left with a small mauve gratitude journal that caught my eye. Since then, I have been doing my morning and evening gratitude reflections. This practice has allowed me to experience the sheer joy and miracle of each passing moment.

Fast forward to August 6th, the morning of my book signing hosted by 44th & 3rd Bookseller ( I know, right, it’s all alchemy). I felt a bit of nervousness, as expected on event day. My sister, Leah, could not get to Atlanta because of flight issues. Our friend Lisa came over that morning with the most beautiful bouquet of sunflowers along with a gift from my sister. I cried. Tevie called and brightened my day. My younger sister, Charmaine, went into delegation mode assigning everyone tasks. My brother Anton packed my books into my car while my Dad ironed my dress. My mother reassured me that the day would be perfect while my niece and nephew’s laughter filled the house. I got to see and speak to my brother A before heading out the door. Issa left a pair of her Ire Aje earrings in the mailbox for me. Christain @ The Social Pedigree created the most beautiful aesthetics to compliment a beautiful day. Some of my favorite people filled the room, along with some new faces. My heart is full. This is love.

Modupe. Grazie. Merci. Thank you will always seem insufficient in any language.

There is no need to go out searching for love. Instead, be love, ooze love, and notice love because she’s always there.

p.s. The Lineage of Love is now available at 44th & 3rd Bookseller and Medu Bookstore in Atlanta. Xx
